U.N. Peacekeepers

“As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.”

Ideologies

Few people were as loyal to the cause and mission of the good ship Unity as Pravin Lal, the ship’s Chief Surgeon. So when the ship’s passengers fractured and split into ruinous, disparate parts, Lal took the precious few who were still truly loyal to the original charter and boarded an escape pod with them.

Now, as the factions on the planet feel further apart than ever, the Peacekeepers hold onto the Four Freedoms that were originally outlined by the U.N. like a lifeline: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Every Peacekeeper remembers the promise of the Unity; they want nothing more than to see those on the planet reunited again, and to create the better world their ancestors dreamed of when they first took to the stars.

The Peacekeepers are staunch supporters of democratic governments, and the power they believe such organisations can have to create a world that can actually provide for its people. They avoid military aggression where possible, preferring to achieve their ends through negotiation and clever compromise. Scientific discovery and exploration are part of this dream - while they don’t chase these pursuits with the same zeal as those of the University, the Peacekeepers are a pragmatic people who understand that progress is a tool towards creating the better, brighter, more just society they all fight for.

The Peacekeepers lead lives that are simple, comfortable, and sensible - all who live amongst them are provided with food, shelter, and support thanks to their centralised economy. The society they live in is structured around the duly elected government that leads them. The civil service thrives, and the bureaucracy of the faction is a glorious, perfect machine - as far as any loyal to it is concerned.

Synopsis

The Peacekeepers are efficient, robust people. Their clothes are comfortable and professional, and often feature their insignia to show their loyalty to the cause that so many others have forgotten.

Of course, they understand the mess that is caused by the factions around them - while pacifistic at their core, it never hurts to be prepared, and it is not unheard of to see a Peacekeeper sensibly armoured and ready.

Appearance

Believers – Their spirituality is admirable but their rejection of the new holds them back.

Human Hive – An abominable experimental society that tries in vain to stamp out all that makes their subjects human.

Morgan Industries – A powerful engine for improving living standards is at work, if applied properly without recreating the tragedy of Earth.

Opinions

Gaia’s Stepchildren - An admirable will to live sustainably, but humanity must develop this new world if we want to prosper.

Spartans – Power at the point of a gun tramples human potential, they are a danger to the mission.

University of Planet – Knowledge should be used to better human experience, but not at any cost.
